Doin’ My Touchdown Dance

by robinmomblog on January 10, 2012

As I was writing yesterday about what a great Monday it was, I had no idea how much better it was about to get.

About three weeks ago my hubby was choosing his bowl game pics for the football pool my brother in law was putting together.  As I was fixing dinner, he kept asking me, “Who should I take in this game?  Who should I take in that game?”

Finally I said, “Hey, if I’m going to pick these games, I might as well put my own $20 in and pick them for myself!”

So the hubster created an account for me and I chose my picks.

Now I have a very scientific method for how I make my choices:  It’s completely based on a “feeling”.

Groundbreaking.

I clicked on each game and pretty much immediately had a feeling about which team was going to win.  Sometimes, I would look at it and think, “Ooh, I’m feeling the red (team color)” or “I’m feeling the Tigers (mascot)”.  For the West Virginia/Clemson game, where 84% of the country felt Clemson was going to win, I did not believe Dana Holgorsen and his Red Bull were going to go down like that.

And man was I right.  They smoked ‘em…..70-33!

My Feelings System yielded me 27 wins and 8 losses.  Not too shabby.

Enough of all that…..now to the good stuff…..

That’s right folks!  See that Robbin_D in the number one spot??  THAT’S ME!

(Not sure how my hubby came up with that screen name…..or why he spelled my name wrong……)

(Also not sure how technology works well enough to put that picture in there the correct way.  I believe I’ve heard of something like a screen capture or something like that, but who needs technology when I can take a picture of my computer screen with my cell phone, email the picture to myself, then cut and paste it into this post??)

Now I have to be completely honest here……I did not pick Alabama to win.

*GASP*

I really thought LSU (and crazy Les Miles) would somehow pull it out.

As all of the other games played out and I realized I might win, we started looking at the other players at the top of the board.  It became obvious that the guy in third would beat me if LSU won because he had picked LSU as well….but he had more points on it than I did.

My hubby and my brother in law begged me to change my pick to Alabama (you can do that up until kickoff).  But I decided that I was sticking with my picks.

(And let’s face it…..they were in #30 and #19 respectively….who were they to tell me….)

(Sorry, that was rude.)

So as the game approached last night, it boiled down to this:  If LSU won, I was getting second place.  If Alabama won, SO DID I!

You guessed it….me and my entire family were cheering for the team I DIDN’T pick!

Whew.  What a long drawn out (possibly boring) story.

With a very happy ending!

My hubby spent practically the entire game laughing at me.  I’m not sure he has ever seen me so serious about a game.  I may or may not have been yelling things like:

“Aw, come on!  What a pansy!”

“Hey they just robbed us of three seconds!  Roll that clock back!”

“Quit crying!  That was not a penalty!”

“SHEL-LEY!  SHEL-LEY!  SHEL-LEY!!”  (Alabama’s kicker)

Another clue I was personally invested in this game??  The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was on at the same time and I was not even thinking about watching it!  I also made my hubby pause the game after halftime so I could go take a shower.

My parents and my sis and her family were watching the game together.  When it was over, they called me and I answered the phone, “SHOW ME THE MONEY!!”

Ahhh….good times.

And as promised here, I believe I owe you all one of these!

PS  Is that the weirdest foam finger you’ve ever seen??

Maybe I’m not reading correctly, or it’s that I don’t understand the weird “names” you guys used, but I don’t see my football coach brother’s name at the top of that pick list…….
